Kalavani - Review

Kalavani is a watchable entertainer with some boring portions in the first half.

Vimal(I think this is the hero's real name) has done a decent job. Heroine reminds Subramaniyapuram Swathi. Actually after reading some reviews, i thought the movie would be on par with films like Nadodigal, Subramaniyapuram etc. But the movie was very normal.

The biggest strength of the movie is the humor content in it. The story is very ordinary and one would've seen such stories in 80's and 90's films. It is just about the happenings of a person in a village, who is aimless in his life. But due to some decent comedy scenes, even such a wafer thin story makes you sit and watch the film completely. Most of the scenes in the movie were quite natural and not cinematic. This is another strength of the film.

In terms of music "Damma Damma" song is humble. Other songs and BGM were quite disappointing. Ganja Karupu's comedy is enjoyable. Saranya did her part well.

Over all, the movie is quite entertaining. If the director had concentrated on the first half and worked with a better technical team, then the movie would've been even better.

My rating : 3/5

Angadi Theru

A good movie from Vasantha Balan. He has shown the harsh reality that is happening in shops like Saravana Stores. He has shown the real quality of the cloths sold in such places. He has shown how people are ill treated and made to work like donkeys without any mercy.

Very good performance by the lead artists. Hats off.. The director had some humor content in the film which was very nice. That's because the entire movie was about the dark reality in a shopping mall and humor content in such a film will be a great sigh of relief and refreshment for audience who don't enjoy such dark films.

The greatest plus point of the film is REALITY. The film was very much natural and close to realism. G.V. Prakash and Vijay Antony has given a good music for this film. Thank god, there is no unnecessary duets or dream sequence.

The only drawback(Not really a drawback though)is the sad feeling which you get throughout the film. This film might not be liked by few people who watch only feel good entertainer. But as a movie, it was really nice and natural.

My rating : 4/5

Singam

The story of this film is just a rehash of many Masala movies. It reminds Hari's best commercial movie Samy. The concept of Villain kidnapping people reminds Surya's commercial hit KK.

Talking about the plus points of the film, the second half was quite racy. Surya-Prakash Raj scenes were quite entertaining, though they were nothing new. DSP background music was too noisy. It could've been much better. Two songs(She has stole my heart and En idhayam edhuvarai) were quite OK.

Surya's dialog delivery was quite better when compared to his mass(!) dialogs in movies like Aaru and Vel.

Anushka was a major let down in this movie(except for her glamor in songs). Surya-Anushka scenes were all boring. I wonder in how many films will the heroines fall in love after hero bashing up the people who tease her.

Vivek's so called comedies were boring and never evoked laughter. He has also done some crass acts in the name of comedy which were irritating.

Prakash Raj's role reminds his role in movies like Ghilli and Sivakasi. But still , he did justice to his role once again and it was quite enjoyable.

Overall, one might get a better feel about the movie as the second half is much better than the first half. If Hari had had a better first half with some good love and comedy scenes, then the movie would've been quite convincing. Surya's Ayan was better than this film, but at the same time, this is far better a movie when compared to movies like Aadhavan.

Verdict - Above average.

ASAL Review

Saw this movie in my laptop today(14/6/2010).

Let me first point out the plus points(Very few) in this film.

Technically, the movie was good. The camera work was sleek and stylish.(I heard the camera man is an assistant of Nirav Shah. Not sure about it) Stunt sequences were good.

Saran tried to give a movie like Billa but failed to deliver it successfully. Its an ordinary revenge story.

Performances by everyone were absolutely pathetic. Especially, the Villain was damn funny. Yogi Sethu as don Samosa failed to evoke laughter. Bhavana was wasted and Sameera's role was also not interesting.

Ajith's screen presence might be a sigh of relief for his hardcore fans but even he didn't look convincing like how he was in movies like Billa. Barathwaj's songs were pathetic to say the least. Overall, even if one watches this movie without any expectations, he will end up getting disappointed.

ASAL - Padam partha Rasigargalin uyir USAL

Rating : 1.5/5

I hope Ajith's 50th film will be good. All the best. [:)]

Ghilli - revisit in Sathyam Cinemas

First of all, i thank the owners of Sathyam Cinemas for screening a movie like Gilli in such a prestigious multiplex.

Each and every hero has a special movie in his career. For instance, our Superstar Rajnikanth has Basha. It is a movie that can be watched 'n' number of times. Similar to that, our Ilayathalapathy Vijay has Gilli, which without any doubt, is his career best film.

The atmosphere was terrific in Sathyam Cinemas. It was a 240 seater theater(Seasons) and almost 90% of the seats were full @ morning 8 30. The movie has been played umpteen times in Television but still it is able to attract repeat audience. This itself is a great achievement for the cast and crew of Gilli.

When the Kabadi Kabadi song was played, people threw paper and even started dancing like anything. But since the theater people entered the hall, those dancing crowd were asked to be seated in their respective places. The whistles and cheers were extraordinary for each and every catchy dialog. Not only Vijay, even Trisha and Prakash Raj received lot of applause for their rocking performance.

Vijay might have danced for many folk songs, but still, Appadi Podu stands unique and exciting even now. The chemistry between Vijay and Trisha is really good.

Over all , it was like a festival season in 'seasons' for Vijay fans.

Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya - Review

VTV: Very Average

Saw the movie in Bala Abhirami theater today.(Ofcourse, Houseful)

The first half of the movie was quite good. It was really nice to see Simbu playing such a simple character. No unwanted heroism, no one liners etc etc. He was quite apt for the role.

Trisha was looking really nice in the film. Her Chemistry with Simbu, especially in songs were really good. She did her role quite well, though it was not quite convincingly sketched by the director.

ARR BGM and songs were splendid. This is one of the major plus point of the film. Cinematography was also good.

Talking about the drawbacks of the film, the second half of the movie was not good. It was really slow. The twist in the climax was really shocking and it was quite unwanted. The director could've handled the second half quite well. If the second half had been on par with the first half, then it would've been a nice romantic entertainer.

Overall my rating is 2.5/5.

Can been seen once in theaters if you go and watch it without any expectations.

Vettaikaran - Review

This is a typical Vijay film. This film has all the commercial ingredients which you expect from a Vijay movie.

The first half of the film is quite entertaining with nice comedy scenes and the scenes involving Vijay-Anushka were quite good laced with humor. The fight sequence in the first half was really nice and the fans of Ilayathalapathy will definitely enjoy it to the core.

The second half starts quite well and until the Puli Urumudhu song, the movie is really good. After that , the movie travels with a normal pace and thrill until the En Unchi Mandaila song. But the portion after the last folk song could've been better. It will be better if Sun pictures trims the final segment of the film.

Talking about the star cast, Vijay has once again proved that he is capable of carrying the entire burden of the film on his shoulders single handedly. He is the heart and soul of the film.

Anushkha provides ample glamour in songs and she also shares a good screen presence with Vijay in the first half. However, in the second, she just appears here and there before songs.

The other casts too have done justice to their role. Vijay antony's foot tapping songs and a decent BGM are another big asserts to the film

Overall, the movie is above average and with the backing of Sun pictures, one can definitely expect a Super hit status @ Box office.

My Rating : 2.85/5

If the finishing segment is trimmed , then the rating will be 3/5.

Kanden kadhalai - review

The movie was quite decent though it's not on par with Hindi version.

The main plus point of this film is none other than Santhanam's comedy. Though he reminds and even repeats some Koundamani dialogs, his antics were really enjoyable, especially his dialog delivery was simply superb.

Barath's performance is very ordinary and one can't compare Shahid Kapoor's performance with him. But when compared to his so called acting in some crass Masala entertainers, its quite OK. Perhaps with a better director, he could've done even better. Who knows. I hope Barath selects such well made entertainers in future rather than giving call sheet to some crap mass masalas.

Tamanna was not so bad, her humor was enjoyable to an extend but in emotional scenes, she needs to improve her acting. She was not as convincing as kareena in JAB we met.

Songs were pretty decent from Vidhyasagar. Three songs were hummable and they have also been choreographed quite well.

Over all, the movie is quite decent and is definitely a nice time pass entertainer. Those who haven't seen the Hindi version will enjoy the film even more.

Verdict - A Feel good entertainer.
My Rating - 3/5 [:)]

Aadhavan - Review

Saw this movie in my friend's house yesterday.(23 - 11 - 2009)

To be frank, i expected a very average film as the review in and out online forums were not so encouraging. But i was terribly disappointed watching this film.

The story of the film is nothing new. At least the screen play could have been better. But there was nothing interesting in the screenplay except Vadivel's comedy.

The first half of the film purely traveled on the shoulders of Vadivel. He provided enough laughter to the audience. But excluding that, the movie had nothing to cheer about.

Nayanthara just comes in and before songs. Surya's performance was quite OK but there were many self praising dialogs in the film.

The second half and the flashback scenes were a big yawn and one wonders why the director had morphed the face of Surya to a small boy to portray Surya in ten year old getup.

Some stunts in first half were inspired from Casino Royale but except for those replicated stunts, others were damn funny. The hero was flying over buildings like a triple jump athlete. One wonders what was the stunt master thinking in his mind while choreographing such stunts.

The climax stunt was totally atrocious. Two songs are hummable from Harris but his music sounds too monotonous now a days.

Overall, the movie is a big time disappointment from KSR-Surya combo.

Verdict - Aadhavan : Aagadhavan (Stay Away)
My rating - 2/5

This two marks is for Vadivel. But you can watch his comedy scenes in Aadhitya or Siripoli.

Peranmai Review

The movie had a very simple but a nice and an innovative concept. It is pleasing to see such plots in Tamil Cinema. But one feels that the National award director could've made the film in a much better way though he has satisfied the audience by giving an decent flicker.

Jeyam Ravi's performance has been good in this film. He has underplayed his character. Though it was an action film, he never had any over the top punch liners. His physique was good and it was definitely justifying his role of forest officer in this film.

The five girls were neither too good nor too bad. They were quite OK. But one feels that the director could've avoided the filthy language and other such gimmicks of those girls in the first half.

The CG is very very average. Camera work was quite sleek. Foreign actors were quite OK though they could've been portrayed better. Roland alone stands unique among the other foreign actors. The songs were very much average.

On the downside of the film, the director got confused in many aspects. He tried to show that SC/ST people should not be underestimated. But he concentrated too much dialogs betraying them and in the second half, the director never showed a sign of what happened to those forest people who has been ill treated by Ponvannan.

Overall , the movie is a decent entertainer which doesn't bore you at any part due to a new plot(In Tamil cinema) and some decent action sequence.

My Rating - 3.5/5

Vettaikaran Audio - Review

Vettaikaran songs - Review

1. Nan Adicha Tangamata(Shankar Mahadevan)
Without any doubt , this is the introduction song of the film. Vijay Antony has exactly delivered a Mass intro song for the fans of Ilayathalapathy. The song will be a foot tapping one for Vijay fans and with Vijay's acrobatic dancing skills, this song will also be a Visual treat for the audience.
Rating : 8/10

2.Puli Urimudhu - (Ananthu , Mahesh Vinayakram)
This song will be a pulsating one for Vijay fans. The lyrics for this song has been written with the mass of Vijay in mind. Though the beat is not never heard before, it has enough ingredients to make the song a pulsating one. If choreographed well, then this song will be one of the biggest hits of the year.
Rating : 8.5/10

3.Oru Chinna Tamarai(Krish,Suchitra)
This is a fast paced melody song. Though the song sounds quite clinched , the music , lyrics and the voice of the singers along with the English rap is quite good. This song is a treat for those who love fast paced romantic songs.
Rating : 7.5/10

4.Karigalan Kalan(Suchitra, Sangeetha Rajeshwaran)
This is a typical Tamil folk song. Though its just another folk song, Vijay Antony has used some English raps even in this song. This song sounds average but will be a bigger hit once we see the visual with Vijay's dance.
Rating : 6/10

5.Oru Chinna Thamarai(Rap)
This song is just a slight different version of the original Chinna Thamarai song. Its just as good as the original song.
Rating : 7.5/10

6. Yen Uchi mandaiyella(Krishna Iyer, Shoba Chandrasekar)
This song is a fast paced one with a mixture western and Tamil folk items. The song sounds too loud but looks like it will suit the pace of the film. Again , the song sounds quite clinched like other songs in the album.
Rating : 6.5/10

Over all, the album is a decent one for Vijay fans and other people who love enjoying fast paced music. Vijay Antony has definitely lived up to his level and he has not disappointed the fans of Vijay.

OVER ALL RATING : 7.5/10

Unnai Pol Oruvan - Review

A good thriller with a message. The movie started at a slow pace but after 15 odd minutes, the thrill started. Thank god . The movie didn't have any unwanted songs in it.

The movie had very nice performances by many including the protagonist Kamal. He has once again done a good job in this film. But just a doubt. I really wonder what Sriman had to do with this film. I felt that his character was totally out of the plot and had nothing to do with the story or the screenplay of the film. Such portions could've been trimmed.

Mohanlal , Lakshmi , Ganesh and co have done a quite decent job. Ganesh totally contradicted the character which he played in Abhiyum Nanum and he justified the role of a tough cop with his style and charisma.

The BGM is neither good nor bad. Not a very bad start for Shruthi Hassan as a music director.

Over all my rating for the film is 4/5.

UPO-Watch it for its thrill

Kandasamy Review

First and foremost, i didn't have any expectation on the film as i got mixed reviews before watching the film.

Vikram's performance was good. He is the heart and soul of the film. He carries the entire burden on his shoulders and his hardwork is very much evident on the screen.

Shreya does what people expect from her , especially in such an high tech Masala film. But her exposure can't be watched with family for sure. I don't know why all so called high tech Masala films have too much of glamour and skin show in it.

Vadivel's comedy scenes were quite okay. Especially the scene where Vadivel dons the get up of Kandasamy was really nice. His comedy was not as bad as what the people said. I just saw around five comedy scenes of Vadivel in this film. So i am not sure whether his comedy scenes were trimmed or not.

The first half of the film was quite nice. Not even a single scene was boring the first half. But the moment the film traveled Mexico , the bore started . I really can't understand what they tried in that fight sequence where Vikram's eyes will be cover with a black colour material. What were they trying . Instead they could've had a normal fight sequence.

Shreya - Vikram scenes in first half were Ok. But in second half, especially after the Mexico flight scene , they were really boring. Susi Ganesan concentrated more on style in the second half but completely forgot the fact that the audience must be kept engaged and entertained in an action film.

The climax was quite decent. Though they were quite predictable, those scenes were quite Ok. The movie is a mixture of Sivaji and Anniyan. No doubt in it. But if Susi Ganesan had had a better second half , then the movie would've been a decent entertainer with style for sure.

DSP's BGM, songs and other technical aspects of the film were really nice. The camera work was quite sleek. But they have over done the usage of flash.

Ashish Vidyarthi was quite good but the other Villain(Pokkiri fame Govind) was not at all apt for the film. People started laughing like anything when he danced for the climax item number song with Mumaith Khan.

Song placements were not too bad. For commercial film, songs are bound to come in such places.

Over all, the movie is neither terrible nor terrific.

Kandasamy - Nondhum Pogai , Vendrum Pogalai

My Rating - 2.7/5

Eeram Review

I would say that it was a decent attempt from the director. He made sure that there are some portions of thrill in the film to keep the audience engaged.

The story had the concept of GHOST in it. Though GHOST is just a fictional thing in our real life(Or at least i don't believe in ghost), the director has narrated it with not many over the top stuffs.

The camera work was absolutely Superb. Technical aspects were really nice in the film. One romantic song in the first half is really hummable.

Regarding the drawbacks of the film , it was very lengthy. Some scenes could've been trimmed so that the movie is even more thrilling and engaging. At times, the director gives us a feeling of watching a horror drama in television channels due to some lengthy scenes. Those stuffs could've been handled better.

All the lead actors have done a decent job in this film. Over all , if you like to watch a decent horror film barring the lengthy narration , then go and watch the film.

My rating : 3.5/5

Villu audio review-Balaji

1.Rama Rama(Amalraj and Kovai Sarala)

This is the introduction song of Vijay in Villu. The lyrics are definitely pulsating and enjoyable. This song will be liked by Vijay fans more than anyone as it portrays the hero with magical words and heavy beats.Amalraj's voice looks good and Kovai Salara's high pitch voice too is quite good.If you are a hardcore Vijay fan, then this will be your favorite song of the album as it has everything to bring the roofs inside the theater.Over all a nice Introduction song for Vijay.

Rating 8/10

2.Nee Kovapattal(Sagar)

This looks like a melody song where Vijay tries to convince Nayanthara. The lyrics of Pa.Vijay are so cute and Sagar has sung the song quite well.Though the song looks a bit clinched, its really melodious and enjoyable.

Rating 7.5/10

3.Are you crazy(Divya)
The singer Divya has sung the song really well.More over, the lyrics are funny too core and the song is just for about 40 seconds.A beautiful song to hear and if choreographed well, then it will be a Visual treat for sure.

Rating 8/10

4.Jalsa(Baba Sehgal,Rita)
This song has a western beat and it can be classified as a fast beat western song. The singer Baba Sehgal has sung a song in Tamil for the first time(Even in Roja , i heard that he didn't sing any song in the Tamil version). His voice is nice and the song has lot of scope to become a big hit.

Rating 8.5/10

5.Daddy Mummy(Naveen Mahadevan,Mamta Mohandas)
This song too comes under the fast beat western music category. It has been sung by Naveen and Mamta. The lyrics of the song looks ordinary and the song too looks like a song already produced by DSP(Devi Sri Prasad).Though it has a redundancy in terms of music,Vijay's dance and the decent music will make it enjoyable.

Rating 7/10

6.Vada Vada Mappilai(Tiru,Rita)
This is another folk song of the album. The day Vijay's "Appadi Podu" became a very big chartbuster,Vijay made it sure that at least there is one such song in his film and this song is not an exception. The music is definitely enjoyable and Vijay's dance with Nayathara can make the audience dance in theaters if you are one such kind.

Rating 7.5/10

7.Thimthanakka Thillana(Devi Sri Prasad,Thillana)
This song resembles the DADDY MUMMY song from the same album. But it has a better lyrics and thus can become a bigger hit than the DADDY MUMMY song. The speciality is that it has been sung by the music director DSP himself.

Rating 7.5/10

8.Jalsa Remix
This is a faster version of the Jalsa song.It is on par with the original song with peppy western music. But one can't say surely whether this song will be available in the movie as it has about 7 songs excluding this one.But still, its good for sure.

Rating 8/10

Overall, the album is enjoyable for sure and satisfies the expected level. The only apprehensive thing is that it looks a bit redundant at times. But still,Devi Sri Prasad has done a good job and stabled his reputation in Tamil too.

Over all Rating 8/10

Ilayathapathy's achievement in 2008

Actor Vijay, fondly known as Ilayathalapathy by his fans all across the globe, has something to cheer this year.Yes.He has been honored by being the brand ambassador of Chennai Superkings and his team marched towards the finals and ended up getting the runners trophy. This mutually benefited both Vijay and the team. For the team,Vijay catered lot of non cricket fans. Many people started following IPL just for one brand name named VIJAY.For the latter, it was all about his popularity getting raised in North India.Yes.He became very famous outside South. Its a known fact that he has a very good support in Tamilnadu,Kerala and Karnataka. His movies stunning opening collections is a testimony for that fact. Now , with IPL , he became popular in the other parts of India too. Many people started recognizing him after IPL, especially seeing the way in which CSK(Chennai SuperKings)marched towards the finals.

Then comes his presence during the audio launch of Dasavatharam.Excluding the team's star cast, top celebrities from India were supposed to be invited in that event.Vijay was one among the list.He had an opportunity to share his presence with Legendary action hero Jackie Chan. This is definitely a honor for Vijay. Moreover,Vijay when spoke in that event, said that Dasavatharam will be a Blockbuster of this year for sure.As his speech portrayed, the movie became not only a blockbuster, but also one of the biggest South Indian hits. What a coincidence.

Then its the Lyola college survey which portrayed Vijay has the biggest star in Tamilnadu next only to MGR and Sivaji. He was even leading the Superstar Rajnikanth in that rating.Lyola college's survey is always considered as a reputed survey as they are known for predicting the Tamilnadu's election results correctly. Thus,Vijay's name ahead of Rajnikanth in this survey is definitely an applaudable thing for him.

Last but not the least comes his film KURUVI.One might wonder whats so special about this film.Though its just a moderate hit,it collected more that 36 odd crores, considering the fact that the movie was sold more than 36 crores and its definitely a profitable venture though not a blockbuster. The moderate success of Kuruvi was achieved in spited of the entire Tamil media betraying the film as it was not up to the expected mark. This happened for Superstar with regard to his movies like Sivaji and Chandramuki though both the movies emerged as winners later. Now Vijay, next only to Superstar has proved that he can carry out a film single handedly and make it a hit at Box office, if not a blockbuster.

Here are some of the achievements of Kuruvi:
  • This movie completed 40 days in 184 theaters. Source:http://i27.tinypic.com/vrcw2s.jpg
  • This movie emerged as the second best overseas hit , next only to Dasavatharam , with regard to Tamil films. (Source:Kumudham Magazine)
  • The Devi theater owner, one of the biggest theater owner in Tamilnadu claims that Kuruvi is a big money spinner in this year. Source:http://lh6.ggpht.com/irshath123/SORnkgaDZHI/AAAAAAAAAOI/liA3Ex4hWug/s400/kuruvi.jpg
  • To make the above facts even more stronger, the producer of the film,Mr.Udhayanidi stalin has reportedly planned to celebrate the glory of Kuruvi in Park Sherton hotel and K.Balachandar will be the chief guest presenting the trophy for the crew portraying the success of the film.
These facts clearly prove that Kuruvi, though not a blockbuster like Gilli , is a hit for sure. Now , Ilayathapathy's Villu is under progress.Wish him a very good success for his forthcoming Villu and hope it does better than Kuruvi. All the best Thalapathy.March a head.

Sa-ro-ja Review

The story is about S.P.Charan and co,who faces some problems, while going to Hydrabad to watch the India Vs Australia match. On their Journey to Hydrabad, there takes place an accident and thus a breakage comes in their journey. Thus, they take diversion and try to go to their destination by some other route.Unfortunately, they face some very big problem because of this new route. They get trapped by a gang of bandits who has already abducted a girl. The rest of the story is about how S.P.Charan,Premji and co,along with that girl escapes from that place.

This story seems to be an inspiration from Hollywood hit Judgement Night. But still, the director Venkat Prabhu needs to be applauded for his good screenplay and adapting it quite well as per the taste of our people. The songs are been placed in right places.Almost all of the main characters in this film have already made an appearance in Chennai-60028.

Premji, post Chennai-600028,has once again proved that he is good in timing comedies.Be it the scenes in which he says the famous dialogs of Rajni or Vijay,or the scene were he combs his hair with his hand before rescuing that abducted girl,Premji scores to core.

S.P.Charan and others in that friend's gang have also done quite a good job along with Premji. The heroine, who did the role of a school girl, looks good.Even the item number girls and many other female character who comes as bits and pieces of the film were not really bad.

Prakash Raj and Jeyaram did a very good job in this film.Especially in the pre-climax scene, which has a very unexpected twist, has been performed well by both of them. The antagonist character was also done quite well.Overall, the performance each and every artist were really nice.

Yuvan's music needs a special note. His songs were chartbusters even before the release of the film. Now,with the songs being choreographed quite well, they are a hit for sure. His BGM has also come out well. His music is definitely a boon to the film.

Regarding the negative aspects, the film starts off a bit slow unlike Chennai - 600028.The starting 20 odd minutes could've been trimmed even better. Also the movie lacks a bit of logic here and their. For instance,SPB Charan goes back to the place to take back his purse considering the fact that his purse might lead him some problems in future. But actually they left their Car and many of their items inside the car. So,won't they face any problem because of their car and the items which the car possess?

But these things are swept under the carpet by Venkat Prabhu's thrilling screenplay.Overall, when you come out of the theater, the movie makes you feel that you have watched an feel good entertainer, which is ultimately more important that any of these logical errors.

Rating-4/5

0-1: Stay away
1-2: Pathetic
2-3: Average
3-4: Fine
4-5: Superb

Kuruvi : Music review

Kuruvi audio has 6 songs including a theme music.

1 Dandaana Darna

This song is quite Okay. This will be a treat for Vijay fans. The beat could've been better even better.I would say this will be something like "Allu Allu" from Bagavathi.Hope the choreography is good(I am confident).Vijay fans will bring the roofs down inside the theater for sure.

Rating: 6.5/10

2 Happy new year

This song is also quite good. Not great. But a decent one.I hope that the video will make this song good.Vijay fans will like this song. They will be dancing inside the theater.

Rating:7/10

3 Mazha Mozhunu

This song is too crass.I expected a much better and decent folk song from Vidhyasagar. This song is similar to the lines of Tirupachi,Sivakasi,Pokkiri(Mambhazam) etc... ..But Vijay has enough number of fans to make this song a big hit .. Still i didn't like this song..

Rating 4.5/10

4 Palaandhu Palaandhu

This song has a western beat.I didn't like the song when i listened for the first time. But after repeated hearings the song is fine.I think the video will make this song hit.

Rating 6.5/10

5 Thane Thane

This is the pick of the album. This song will be a big hit like other melodies of Vijay. The only thing that looks odd in this song is Udit Narayanan's voice. The female voice is good.Vijay and Trisha will make the video look good.

Rating 8/10

6 Theme music
The Theme music is good.Especially the last 30 second "Kuruvi Kuruvi Kuruvi adicha" rocks... ..

Rating 8.5/10

Over a treat for Vijay fans and an above average album for neutral. If movie entertains, then all these song will become chartbusters for sure.

Sachien review

Sachien(Vijay) is a college student.Once he sees Shalini(Genelia) on a rainy day in Otty. Then Sachien starts loving Shalini from his first sight.Meantime Santhanam,a rich student tries to impress Shalini. But he comes to know that Sachien and Genelia are close to each other. So he tries to spoil Sachien's name by some mischievous behavior. Then Sachien go and proposes Shalini. But Shalini rejects his love saying that she doesn't believe in love at first sight. Now Sachien challenges Shalini that he will make her accept his love within 30 days. After 30 days Genelia comes to know about his true love. Then there is a small twist in the tail.Vijay is the son of one of the top ten richest person in India. Thus Shalini doesn't express her love thinking that Sachien might question him whether she proposes him only for his money. The rest of the film is about how these two lovers join hands.

Its an out and out Vijay's show in this film.He looks very smart and rich in this film.Even though the film has enough scope for the actress to perform, its Vijay who steals the show.Once again he has done well in the department of dance, fight, comedy and emotion. His body language is very much enthusiastic in this film. That deserves a special note.

Genelia looks cute and colorful. But she could've performed much better in this film. Her performance is just okay. She overacts at times and reminds Jothika here and there.

Bipashu basu is a mere item number in this film and has been used just for the sake of glamor. She looks like an aunt for Vijay. The North Indian glam-doll could've been choreographed much better.

The plus points of this film is its first half and comedy scenes.Vijay-Vadivelu combo has clicked once again in the department of comedy.Vadivelu as a college student is very funny and makes you laugh like anything.

Devi Sriprasad has composed the tunes quite well and the songs has a right combo of melody, peppy and western numbers.Especially the "Vadi Vadi" song sung by Vijay has come out well with his fans.

The draw back of the film is its last 30 odd minutes.Vijay being showed as a one of the top ten richest person in Indian in the last 30 minutes isn't a great twist.Scenes like Shalini thinking good about Vijay when he makes a young girl laugh till she dies,Vijay talking with Shalini's mother with a beer bottle and cigarette and other such stuffs in second half aren't acceptable.Bipashu basu scenes are bearable to an extend as Vadivelu comes along with those scenes.Otherwise even those scenes are really annoying and unacceptable. With first half of the film looking cool,Director John could've done a better second half with a gripping screenplay towards the end. Also some Vijay fans will not be liking this film as some of his usual elements like Mass Introduction song and punch liners are missing.

So,if you want to watch a time pass entertainer then go and watch Sachien.

Rating-2.6/5

Note: I swear that reviews and box office reports are given as a neutral and not as a fan of Vijay.

Box office:

This movie released along with Chandramuki and did reasonably well in urban areas and over seas. But it was just a breakeven in B and C centers. The movie didn't cater well with his rural fans as his famous Mass Introduction and punch liners were missing. When compared to his movies like Tirumalai,Gilli and Tirupachi, it's just an average hit.

Pokkiri review

Tamizh(Vijay) is an underpaid don.He will be working under the dons of the city for money.Once he sees Sruthi(Asin).Later on both of them fall in love and proposes each other. Then one day she comes to know that Tamizh is an underpaid don. Thus she asks him to change his attitude. But Tamizh doesn't.After sometime she comes to know about the true love of Tamizh and thus both of them join hands. Here comes a major twist in the tale.Tamizh is not an underpaid don anymore. He is actually an IPS officer. His father,a GYM owner is also an retired inspector. His ultimate aim is to destroy the mafia gang lead by the international don Ali bhai(Prakash raj) and make the country peaceful.Later on Sruthi comes to know about it.The rest of the story is about how Vijay kills the Ali bhai gang.

Like Vijay's previous movies, this is also an action film.As usual Vijay rocks in his dance and fight. But the comedy department was handled by Vadivelu in this film.

Asin doesn't have a great scope to perform. But she looks good in the romantic scenes and songs with Vijay.

The major plus point of the film is Vadivelu's comedy,Vijay's action cum romance and Prakash raj's character.Though Prakash raj's role isn't that big,he has performed well and lifts the film in the second half. The first half of the film is filled with a right combination of comedy, romance and action.Vadivelu's comedy deserves a special note.Especially his "Sutrum Vizhi chudare" comedy was really funny.

Manisharma has composed the tunes with a right combination of folk, melody and western numbers.Except for the Mumait Khan's item number song, all other songs are choreographed well.Manisharma deserves a special note for his "Vasantha mullai" remix song.

Pefsi Vijayan's fight sequences were really nice and this movie has the best fight sequences for a Vijay film. The stunt master Fefsi Vijay should be applauded for that matter.

On the downside Vijay's usual charm was missing in this film.Director Prabhudeva seems to have made Vijay to depict Mahesh Babu's body language.(Hero of the original Telugu version- Pokiri)Perhaps the movie could've been even better if it had had a typical Vijay's style and mannerisms. He could've also trimmed the role of the inspector who tries to keep Asin in his control. His characterization was really boring and reduces the pace of the film here and there. The pre-interval romantic scene could've also been trimmed as its comes as a speed-breaker.

But even with some boring aspects and some typical Vijay's enthusiasm missing, the movie
still looks fine over all.So if you are looking out for a decent Masala entertainer then go and watch Pokkiri. This movie will satisfy you.
