Vijay(Saravana velu) is a Kabadi player. But his father doesn't like him playing Kabadi with his local friends. He advices him to clear his arrear papers and go for a job.Meantime Vijay wins the quarter-finals match and goes to Madurey to play the semis. He sees Muthupandi(Prakash raj),a local don of Madurey who compels his relative girl Dhanalaxmi(Trisha) to marry him.The latter is 20 years younger than Muthupandi.Saravana vel then rescues Dhanalaxmi by fight with Muthupandi's gang and takes her to Chennai. She stays in Vel's house.Later on Muthupandi comes to Chennai and gives a complaint to the police. Now,its Vel's father Aashis Vidhyarthi who handles the case in Chennai.Meantime Dhanalaxmi falls in love with Vijay. The rest of the story revolves around how Saravana velu and Dhanalaxmi join hands.
With such a story line, you will be expecting a lot of turns and twist in the screenplay.Director Dharani hasn't disappointed you.In fact he has given an awesome screenplay which is racy and pulsating. The screenplay of Gilli is much better than the original Telugu version Okkadu.
Vijay as Saravana velu has done really well.He rocks in all departments like Dance,Fights,Comedy,Sentiments etc.Especially his body language in comedy scenes and action sequences were really awesome. You can't expect more from him for such a next-door-guy role.
Prakash deserves a special note in this film. His"Chellam .. I love you" dialog will be creating waves among the audience for sure.No one could've done this role as good as Prakash.
Trisha doesn't have many dialogs. But she has decent scope to perform well as an actress and she does that by her expressions. In the climax scene, her dialog with Prakash raj got her lot of applause.Perhaps, this is her best performance as an actress as of now.
The main plus point of the film is the racy narration by the director. He has also selected the best star cast for this film. All the three(Vijay,Trisha and Prakash raj) have done justice to their character and they seems to be the best choice for this film.
Vidhyasagar has composed the tunes very well.Except Trisha's Intro song, all other songs are fast beat numbers. You can't expect a melody number from such a film as the songs are composed keeping the script in mind.In one word, the songs are superb.
The drawback of the film are the stunt sequences which could've been done better by the stunt master.Especially the first fight scene where Vijay flies like a spider man could've been avoided.
The film has another big flaw.Without winning the semis,Vijay and co will be playing the finals.
Apart from these things, the movie also has some logical loop wholes here and there.
But all these logical mistakes and slight draw backs have been swept under the carpet by Dharani's racy and gripping narration.Hats off to him.
So,if you want to have a nice time watching a racy film, then go and enjoy GILLI.This racy entertainer will definitely attract you to watch the film again and again.

Gilli was way better than Okkadu and Vijay performed much better than Mahesh in this film.Might be , what you said will suit for Pokkiri , but definitely not Gilli...
