Tirumalai review

Tirumalai(Vijay) is a mechanic.Once he meets Swetha(Jyothika). From that moment the love waves starts for Tirumalai. Then he goes and proposes her.She reject him, teases him and beats him with a gang of boys. But later on she comes to know about his true love and thus accepts his proposal. Then comes the angry father of Swetha who doesn't like to engage her daughter with a local bike mechanic. The rest of the story revolves around how Tirumalai and Swetha join hands.

Such a wafer thin storyline requires a gripping screenplay to make the audience enjoy the film.
Director Ramana has done justice to it.He has given a racy and entertaining screenplay for the two and half hours.

Its a one man show by Vijay. After string of flops like Vaseegara,Geetai Vijay tried to portray himself as an action hero it seems. He has delivered many punch-liners and other such stuffs. He has proved in this film that he can also do action movies. As usual his dance in this movie was simply awesome.

Jyothika on the other hand has some scope to perform. She doesn't disappoint us.She has done justice to her character.

In the first half,Director Ramana has portrayed the Vijay-Jyothika love scenes very well and their on-screen chemistry looks good.In second half he has shown Vijay as a mass hero by giving him many punch-liners and fights. The scenes like Vijay going and challenging the Villan, warning Jyothika's father to give back his friends and other such stuffs have been handled well by director Ramana.

Stunt master Peter Hyne and cinematographer Rathunavel deserves a special note. They have done a very good job in this film.

Vidhyasagar has composed the songs really well and they have also been choreographed in the right manner. The songs have a right combination of melody and peppy numbers and all songs are enjoyable.Lawrence's dance with Vijay in the Intro song needs a special note.

Scenes like the local don Arrasu(Manoj K.Jayen) becoming a good person just after few words about love being spoken by Vijay aren't acceptable. Some of the Vivek comedies could've been better.Except one or two comedies Vivek looks boring in this film. Some Raghuvaran-Kousalya scenes slows down the pace of the film in the first half.Director Ramana could've trimmed those scenes.

But these are just few negative aspects.Apart from that the movie is racy and entertaining.Far better film for Vijay when compared to his earlier movies like Youth,Geetai,Bagavati,Sharjahan etc etc.

So trust this TIRUMALAI and go to the theater. He will definitely entertaining you for the two and half hours.

Rating-3.6/5

0-1: Stay away
1-2: Pathetic
2-3: Average
3-4: fine
4-5: Superb

Note: I swear that reviews and box office reports are given as a neutral and not as a fan of Vijay.

Box office report:

Vijay's career was in a lean patch before this film. His movies like Vaseegara and Pudhiya geetai were declared flop in the box office and he was almost written off.But this movie re-erected his career and it was declared as a Super hit movie in Tamilnadu and Overseas.
