Vettaikaran - Review

This is a typical Vijay film. This film has all the commercial ingredients which you expect from a Vijay movie.

The first half of the film is quite entertaining with nice comedy scenes and the scenes involving Vijay-Anushka were quite good laced with humor. The fight sequence in the first half was really nice and the fans of Ilayathalapathy will definitely enjoy it to the core.

The second half starts quite well and until the Puli Urumudhu song, the movie is really good. After that , the movie travels with a normal pace and thrill until the En Unchi Mandaila song. But the portion after the last folk song could've been better. It will be better if Sun pictures trims the final segment of the film.

Talking about the star cast, Vijay has once again proved that he is capable of carrying the entire burden of the film on his shoulders single handedly. He is the heart and soul of the film.

Anushkha provides ample glamour in songs and she also shares a good screen presence with Vijay in the first half. However, in the second, she just appears here and there before songs.

The other casts too have done justice to their role. Vijay antony's foot tapping songs and a decent BGM are another big asserts to the film

Overall, the movie is above average and with the backing of Sun pictures, one can definitely expect a Super hit status @ Box office.

My Rating : 2.85/5

If the finishing segment is trimmed , then the rating will be 3/5.

Kanden kadhalai - review

The movie was quite decent though it's not on par with Hindi version.

The main plus point of this film is none other than Santhanam's comedy. Though he reminds and even repeats some Koundamani dialogs, his antics were really enjoyable, especially his dialog delivery was simply superb.

Barath's performance is very ordinary and one can't compare Shahid Kapoor's performance with him. But when compared to his so called acting in some crass Masala entertainers, its quite OK. Perhaps with a better director, he could've done even better. Who knows. I hope Barath selects such well made entertainers in future rather than giving call sheet to some crap mass masalas.

Tamanna was not so bad, her humor was enjoyable to an extend but in emotional scenes, she needs to improve her acting. She was not as convincing as kareena in JAB we met.

Songs were pretty decent from Vidhyasagar. Three songs were hummable and they have also been choreographed quite well.

Over all, the movie is quite decent and is definitely a nice time pass entertainer. Those who haven't seen the Hindi version will enjoy the film even more.

Verdict - A Feel good entertainer.
My Rating - 3/5 [:)]

Aadhavan - Review

Saw this movie in my friend's house yesterday.(23 - 11 - 2009)

To be frank, i expected a very average film as the review in and out online forums were not so encouraging. But i was terribly disappointed watching this film.

The story of the film is nothing new. At least the screen play could have been better. But there was nothing interesting in the screenplay except Vadivel's comedy.

The first half of the film purely traveled on the shoulders of Vadivel. He provided enough laughter to the audience. But excluding that, the movie had nothing to cheer about.

Nayanthara just comes in and before songs. Surya's performance was quite OK but there were many self praising dialogs in the film.

The second half and the flashback scenes were a big yawn and one wonders why the director had morphed the face of Surya to a small boy to portray Surya in ten year old getup.

Some stunts in first half were inspired from Casino Royale but except for those replicated stunts, others were damn funny. The hero was flying over buildings like a triple jump athlete. One wonders what was the stunt master thinking in his mind while choreographing such stunts.

The climax stunt was totally atrocious. Two songs are hummable from Harris but his music sounds too monotonous now a days.

Overall, the movie is a big time disappointment from KSR-Surya combo.

Verdict - Aadhavan : Aagadhavan (Stay Away)
My rating - 2/5

This two marks is for Vadivel. But you can watch his comedy scenes in Aadhitya or Siripoli.

Peranmai Review

The movie had a very simple but a nice and an innovative concept. It is pleasing to see such plots in Tamil Cinema. But one feels that the National award director could've made the film in a much better way though he has satisfied the audience by giving an decent flicker.

Jeyam Ravi's performance has been good in this film. He has underplayed his character. Though it was an action film, he never had any over the top punch liners. His physique was good and it was definitely justifying his role of forest officer in this film.

The five girls were neither too good nor too bad. They were quite OK. But one feels that the director could've avoided the filthy language and other such gimmicks of those girls in the first half.

The CG is very very average. Camera work was quite sleek. Foreign actors were quite OK though they could've been portrayed better. Roland alone stands unique among the other foreign actors. The songs were very much average.

On the downside of the film, the director got confused in many aspects. He tried to show that SC/ST people should not be underestimated. But he concentrated too much dialogs betraying them and in the second half, the director never showed a sign of what happened to those forest people who has been ill treated by Ponvannan.

Overall , the movie is a decent entertainer which doesn't bore you at any part due to a new plot(In Tamil cinema) and some decent action sequence.

My Rating - 3.5/5

Vettaikaran Audio - Review

Vettaikaran songs - Review

1. Nan Adicha Tangamata(Shankar Mahadevan)
Without any doubt , this is the introduction song of the film. Vijay Antony has exactly delivered a Mass intro song for the fans of Ilayathalapathy. The song will be a foot tapping one for Vijay fans and with Vijay's acrobatic dancing skills, this song will also be a Visual treat for the audience.
Rating : 8/10

2.Puli Urimudhu - (Ananthu , Mahesh Vinayakram)
This song will be a pulsating one for Vijay fans. The lyrics for this song has been written with the mass of Vijay in mind. Though the beat is not never heard before, it has enough ingredients to make the song a pulsating one. If choreographed well, then this song will be one of the biggest hits of the year.
Rating : 8.5/10

3.Oru Chinna Tamarai(Krish,Suchitra)
This is a fast paced melody song. Though the song sounds quite clinched , the music , lyrics and the voice of the singers along with the English rap is quite good. This song is a treat for those who love fast paced romantic songs.
Rating : 7.5/10

4.Karigalan Kalan(Suchitra, Sangeetha Rajeshwaran)
This is a typical Tamil folk song. Though its just another folk song, Vijay Antony has used some English raps even in this song. This song sounds average but will be a bigger hit once we see the visual with Vijay's dance.
Rating : 6/10

5.Oru Chinna Thamarai(Rap)
This song is just a slight different version of the original Chinna Thamarai song. Its just as good as the original song.
Rating : 7.5/10

6. Yen Uchi mandaiyella(Krishna Iyer, Shoba Chandrasekar)
This song is a fast paced one with a mixture western and Tamil folk items. The song sounds too loud but looks like it will suit the pace of the film. Again , the song sounds quite clinched like other songs in the album.
Rating : 6.5/10

Over all, the album is a decent one for Vijay fans and other people who love enjoying fast paced music. Vijay Antony has definitely lived up to his level and he has not disappointed the fans of Vijay.

OVER ALL RATING : 7.5/10

Unnai Pol Oruvan - Review

A good thriller with a message. The movie started at a slow pace but after 15 odd minutes, the thrill started. Thank god . The movie didn't have any unwanted songs in it.

The movie had very nice performances by many including the protagonist Kamal. He has once again done a good job in this film. But just a doubt. I really wonder what Sriman had to do with this film. I felt that his character was totally out of the plot and had nothing to do with the story or the screenplay of the film. Such portions could've been trimmed.

Mohanlal , Lakshmi , Ganesh and co have done a quite decent job. Ganesh totally contradicted the character which he played in Abhiyum Nanum and he justified the role of a tough cop with his style and charisma.

The BGM is neither good nor bad. Not a very bad start for Shruthi Hassan as a music director.

Over all my rating for the film is 4/5.

UPO-Watch it for its thrill

Kandasamy Review

First and foremost, i didn't have any expectation on the film as i got mixed reviews before watching the film.

Vikram's performance was good. He is the heart and soul of the film. He carries the entire burden on his shoulders and his hardwork is very much evident on the screen.

Shreya does what people expect from her , especially in such an high tech Masala film. But her exposure can't be watched with family for sure. I don't know why all so called high tech Masala films have too much of glamour and skin show in it.

Vadivel's comedy scenes were quite okay. Especially the scene where Vadivel dons the get up of Kandasamy was really nice. His comedy was not as bad as what the people said. I just saw around five comedy scenes of Vadivel in this film. So i am not sure whether his comedy scenes were trimmed or not.

The first half of the film was quite nice. Not even a single scene was boring the first half. But the moment the film traveled Mexico , the bore started . I really can't understand what they tried in that fight sequence where Vikram's eyes will be cover with a black colour material. What were they trying . Instead they could've had a normal fight sequence.

Shreya - Vikram scenes in first half were Ok. But in second half, especially after the Mexico flight scene , they were really boring. Susi Ganesan concentrated more on style in the second half but completely forgot the fact that the audience must be kept engaged and entertained in an action film.

The climax was quite decent. Though they were quite predictable, those scenes were quite Ok. The movie is a mixture of Sivaji and Anniyan. No doubt in it. But if Susi Ganesan had had a better second half , then the movie would've been a decent entertainer with style for sure.

DSP's BGM, songs and other technical aspects of the film were really nice. The camera work was quite sleek. But they have over done the usage of flash.

Ashish Vidyarthi was quite good but the other Villain(Pokkiri fame Govind) was not at all apt for the film. People started laughing like anything when he danced for the climax item number song with Mumaith Khan.

Song placements were not too bad. For commercial film, songs are bound to come in such places.

Over all, the movie is neither terrible nor terrific.

Kandasamy - Nondhum Pogai , Vendrum Pogalai

My Rating - 2.7/5

Eeram Review

I would say that it was a decent attempt from the director. He made sure that there are some portions of thrill in the film to keep the audience engaged.

The story had the concept of GHOST in it. Though GHOST is just a fictional thing in our real life(Or at least i don't believe in ghost), the director has narrated it with not many over the top stuffs.

The camera work was absolutely Superb. Technical aspects were really nice in the film. One romantic song in the first half is really hummable.

Regarding the drawbacks of the film , it was very lengthy. Some scenes could've been trimmed so that the movie is even more thrilling and engaging. At times, the director gives us a feeling of watching a horror drama in television channels due to some lengthy scenes. Those stuffs could've been handled better.

All the lead actors have done a decent job in this film. Over all , if you like to watch a decent horror film barring the lengthy narration , then go and watch the film.

My rating : 3.5/5
