Singam
The story of this film is just a rehash of many Masala movies. It reminds Hari's best commercial movie Samy. The concept of Villain kidnapping people reminds Surya's commercial hit KK.
Talking about the plus points of the film, the second half was quite racy. Surya-Prakash Raj scenes were quite entertaining, though they were nothing new. DSP background music was too noisy. It could've been much better. Two songs(She has stole my heart and En idhayam edhuvarai) were quite OK.
Surya's dialog delivery was quite better when compared to his mass(!) dialogs in movies like Aaru and Vel.
Anushka was a major let down in this movie(except for her glamor in songs). Surya-Anushka scenes were all boring. I wonder in how many films will the heroines fall in love after hero bashing up the people who tease her.
Vivek's so called comedies were boring and never evoked laughter. He has also done some crass acts in the name of comedy which were irritating.
Prakash Raj's role reminds his role in movies like Ghilli and Sivakasi. But still , he did justice to his role once again and it was quite enjoyable.
Overall, one might get a better feel about the movie as the second half is much better than the first half. If Hari had had a better first half with some good love and comedy scenes, then the movie would've been quite convincing. Surya's Ayan was better than this film, but at the same time, this is far better a movie when compared to movies like Aadhavan.
Verdict - Above average.

ASAL Review
Saw this movie in my laptop today(14/6/2010).
Let me first point out the plus points(Very few) in this film.
Technically, the movie was good. The camera work was sleek and stylish.(I heard the camera man is an assistant of Nirav Shah. Not sure about it) Stunt sequences were good.
Saran tried to give a movie like Billa but failed to deliver it successfully. Its an ordinary revenge story.
Performances by everyone were absolutely pathetic. Especially, the Villain was damn funny. Yogi Sethu as don Samosa failed to evoke laughter. Bhavana was wasted and Sameera's role was also not interesting.
Ajith's screen presence might be a sigh of relief for his hardcore fans but even he didn't look convincing like how he was in movies like Billa. Barathwaj's songs were pathetic to say the least. Overall, even if one watches this movie without any expectations, he will end up getting disappointed.
ASAL - Padam partha Rasigargalin uyir USAL
Rating : 1.5/5
I hope Ajith's 50th film will be good. All the best. [:)]
